Parineeta (transl. The Married Woman ) is a 2005 Indian Hindi -language musical romance film adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay 's 1914 Bengali novella of the same name . Directed by debutant Pradeep Sarkar , it was based on a screenplay by the film's producer, Vidhu Vinod Chopra .
Sarkar was working on his “dream project” at the time of his death. The project titled ‘Priya Interrupted’, it was to be the biopic of Priya Rajvansh. Sarkar's first movie under Yash Raj Films was Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, which the New York Times dubbed as a "feminist fairy tale".
