In 2010, Coffee Stain participated in "Make Something Unreal", a modding competition for Unreal Tournament 3 held by Epic Games and Intel, with their mod, Sanctum. [4] The mod was received well, leading Coffee Stain to adopt the Unreal Development Kit to develop Sanctum into a standalone game. [ 4 ]
The smelter had a large network of exhaust flues from the furnaces that all fed a main flue, which carried them a half-mile south up the hill to the stack. [6] The flue system and stack combined to provide a natural draft capable of carrying 3–4 million cubic feet (85,000–113,000 m 3 ) per minute of exhaust gases.
The bloomery was the earliest form of smelter capable of smelting iron. Bloomeries produce a porous mass of iron and slag called a bloom. The mix of slag and iron in the bloom, termed sponge iron, is usually consolidated and further forged into wrought iron.
A typical smelter contains anywhere from 300 to 720 pots, each of which produces about a ton of aluminium a day, though the largest proposed smelters are up to five times that capacity. Smelting is run as a batch process, with the aluminium deposited at the bottom of the pots and periodically siphoned off.
The blast furnace used at the Nyrstar Port Pirie lead smelter differs from most other lead blast furnaces in that it has a double row of tuyeres rather than the single row normally used. [76] The lower shaft of the furnace has a chair shape with the lower part of the shaft being narrower than the upper. [ 76 ]
The power demand of the smelter was 360 MW for a 185,000 tonne annual production capacity in 2014, of which approximately 40 per cent was met by the Anglesea power station. [2] The Point Henry smelter, along with the smelter at Portland , used 18 to 25 per cent of Victoria's electricity production during the 2000s. [ 4 ]
This is a list of primary aluminium smelters in the world. Primary production is the process by which alumina is smelted to pure aluminum. [1] Secondary production is the process of recycling aluminum scrap into aluminum that can be used again. [2]
