Niles is a city in Berrien and Cass counties in the U.S. state of Michigan, near the Indiana state line city of South Bend. The population was 11,988 according to the 2020 census . It is the larger, by population, of the two principal cities in the Niles- Benton Harbor metropolitan area , an area with 153,797 people.
This house was constructed in about 1850 by R.C. Paine, a local banker and for some time the mayor of Niles. Paine died in 1875 and the house was purchased by Henry Lardner, Ring Lardner's father. Ring Lardner was born here in 1885 and lived here until his graduation from high school in 1901, when he moved to Chicago .
Born in Detroit and raised in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan, O'Brien attended Georgetown University. In 1982, he was offered and accepted his first broadcasting position with WRC-TV in Washington, DC. He was later a reporter and anchor at TV stations in Boston, Massachusetts; Tampa, Florida; Albany, New York and St. Joseph, Missouri.
