In medicine, split hand syndrome is a neurological syndrome in which the hand muscles on the side of the thumb (lateral, thenar eminence) appear wasted, whereas the muscles on the side of the little finger (medial, hypothenar eminence) are spared.
Because of this major role of the median nerve, it is also called the eye of the hand. [1] If the median nerve is damaged, the ability to abduct and oppose the thumb may be lost due to paralysis of the thenar muscles. Various other symptoms can occur which may be repaired through surgery and tendon transfers.
Hypothenar hammer syndrome (HHS) is a vascular occlusion in humans in the region of the ulna.It is caused by repetitive trauma to the hand or wrist (such as that caused by the use of a hammer) [2] by the vulnerable portion of the ulnar artery as it passes over the hamate bone, which may result in thrombosis, irregularity or aneurysm formation.
The main symptoms are pain in the hand, numbness, and tingling in the thumb, index finger, middle finger, and the thumb side of the ring finger. [1] Symptoms are typically most troublesome at night. [2] Many people sleep with their wrists bent, and the ensuing symptoms may lead to awakening. [7]

Non-surgical options aim to reduce symptoms and maintain function, such as medicinal treatments like corticosteroids, physical therapy, and splinting. Surgical procedures, however, are rather reserved for extreme cases, but this depends on the ...
The median nerve is a nerve in humans and other animals in the upper limb. It is one of the five main nerves originating from the brachial plexus.. The median nerve originates from the lateral and medial cords of the brachial plexus, [1] and has contributions from ventral roots of C6-C7 (lateral cord) and C8 and T1 (medial cord).
Ulnar tunnel syndrome, also known as Guyon's canal syndrome or Handlebar palsy, is ulnar neuropathy at the wrist where it passes through the ulnar tunnel (Guyon's canal). [1] ...
