Marco Island is a city and barrier island in Collier County, Florida, 20 miles (32 km) south of Naples on the Gulf Coast of the United States. It is the largest barrier island in Southwest Florida's Ten Thousand Islands area, which extends southerly to Cape Sable. Marco Island is home to an affluent beach community with resort amenities.
The Jolley Bridge opened in 1969 and was the second vehicular bridge connecting to Marco Island. The first was the original span of the Goodland Bridge built in 1938. When it opened, it included fishing piers below the bridge. [4] The piers were heavily damaged after the landfall of Hurricane Wilma in 2005, and were subsequently removed.

The Ten Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuge is located in Southwest Florida in Collier County, between Marco Island and Everglades City, Florida. The refuge was first established in 1996 and covers 35,000 acres of the Ten Thousand Islands. The refuge includes both fresh and saltwater, and protects a large area of mangrove forest.

The isles are a grouping of four mangrove islands that were developed and connected in the 1950s.
