Mean income Psych: $170k. Mean income Neuro: $184k (so vistaril is right, neuro averages very slightly more). Regardless, if both fields, the most likely block to fall into is in the $200-250k range, or close to it. The other side to this story is in the hours worked per week though. Psych: 36% < 30h/wk, 37% < 40h/wk.

All of medicine has a HUGE range. $120K-$1 million+ is all possible. #6. #7. I am a state worker at a hospital in a highly saturated area and make almost exactly this much.
Sep 18, 2017. #5. Mad Jack said: There's no real range. It all depends on you. 15 minute cash-only med checks are going to net you completely different net income than 1 hour insurance-based therapy sessions. Most of the people I've talked to in private practice earn around 250k, +/- 50k.

4,250. Reaction score. 9,520. Apr 23, 2021. #2. Only a subset of jobs in psychiatry are wRVU, they aren't used for payment in most settings. $35 per wRVU would be an insult. The median wRVU a few years ago for psychiatry was $67. This varies on geographical location and payer mix among other things.
I believe that since the entering grade is 14/15, the psychiatrist will make much closer to the 116k mark. Probably around 112k...which is still completely unacceptable unless you're looking for that specific kind of job or the hours are so light that you can supplement with an extra 50k-80k on the side.
I got an offer for a small midwestern town inpatient position ~12-14 beds filled at a time depending on staffing. It includes a less than average bonus, receive bonus if meet quality metrics, etc. Besides that, the salary is only $250,000. My issue is that the they are requiring 10 weeknights for call coverage per month, which seems excessive.

So thats why the average is usually around 210k. If you give a psychiatrist cardiology/surgery hours (55ish), I'm sure the average will be around 270-300k. And remember, people don't go into Psych to work 60 hours/week, so there is automatically a selection bias. A lot of med students go into psych for "lifestyle".
19% of psychiatrists made over 300k/year, so it's clearly possible. Men earn ~ 30k more per year. The region with the highest pay is the Great Lakes area, with a mean of 247k. Solo practice docs earned the most at 214k. Partners were very close at 213k. Hospital employed docs were further behind at 194k.
