On 4 July 2024, the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) has officially confirmed the comprehensive use of video assistant referee (VAR) technology during the tournament. [ 9 ] [ 10 ] To ensure uniformity and professionalism, the VAR system will be managed by a third-party provider rather than utilising the resources available in member countries.
The 2024 ASEAN Championship knockout stage (previously AFF Championship) [1] was played from 26 December 2024 to 5 January 2025. A total of 4 teams competed in the knockout stage to decide the champions of the 2024 ASEAN Championship. Vietnam won 5–3 on aggregate against Thailand in the final to win their third title.

Group B is one of the two groups of competing nations in the 2024 ASEAN Championship. It consists of Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Myanmar, and Laos. On 23 May 2022, AFF announced a new title sponsorship deal with Japanese company Mitsubishi Electric and the competition was named the AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup starting in the 2022 edition. [ 9 ] On 29 February 2024, AFF and Mitsubishi Electric , who is the title partner of the championship, launched a new logo and brand identity for the event.

The AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2022 followed the 2018 format, a change from the 2020 format with a centralised venue due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Southeast Asia. In the current format, the nine highest-ranked teams automatically qualified with the 10th and 11th ranked teams playing in a two-legged qualifier.
