Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (or Amrita University) is a multi-campus, multi-disciplinary, research-intensive private deemed university in India. [2] It currently has 19 constituent schools spread across nine campuses in Amaravati , Amritapuri (Kollam), Bangalore , Chennai , Coimbatore , Kochi , Faridabad , Mysore , and Nagercoil .
In 2003, Amrita Vishwa Vidapeetham became one of the youngest universities to be conferred the status of a deemed university. In 2019, an engineering school started operating in the newly established Chennai campus, at the outskirts of the Chennai city in the village of Vengal.
The Government of India awarded Institute of Eminence status to the university. [35] [36] The university is also accredited with A++ by NAAC. [37] Amrita School of Business, Coimbatore was ranked as 19th in the Top private B-schools in India by careers360 magazine for the year 2014. [38] [39] [40]
As of 14 November 2023, the UGC lists 124 institutes which were granted the deemed to be university status. [2] In 2017, a distinct category of deemed universities was established called Institutes of Eminence Deemed to be Universities , which are regulated differently from other deemed universities to develop into world-class institutions.
CEN is a centre under the Amrita Schools of Engineering. The centre is headed by Dr K P Soman [ 4 ] who has been in the research field for more than 25 years. He secured his PhD from IIT Kharagpur and was scientific officer in the Reliability Engineering Centre, IIT Kharagpur, before joining Amrita.
