The Waterloo Wildlife Research Station is a 2,937-acre (11.89 km 2) Ohio state wildlife area located in western Waterloo Township, Athens County, Ohio. Purchase for the area was begun in 1944. [1] The area was greatly expanded in 2005 when 945 acres were added. [2] It was originally named the Waterloo Wildlife Experiment Station.
The first segment of SR 356 brought into the state highway system was in 1932 as an unnumbered spur between SR 56 and the Waterloo State Forest, south of Mineral. [3] [4] By 1934, the route received its number of SR 356. [5] The route was extended to its current length by 1937. [6] No major changes have changed the routing since then.
The Waterloo Central Railway (WCR) is a non-profit heritage railway owned and operated by the Southern Ontario Locomotive Restoration Society (SOLRS). In May 2007, SOLRS received joint approval from the Region of Waterloo and the City of Waterloo to run trains from Waterloo to St. Jacobs and potentially as far north as Elmira.
