OBT's service model is unique among youth programs due to its comprehensive scope of training and its emphasis on personal discipline. When the hospital opened in 2001, it was New York City's first new major children's hospital building in decades. [ 16 ] In 2007 the hospital received a $12 million donation from the John L. Greene Foundation to fund an expansion of the pediatric oncology program at the hospital.
