It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. [1] It is a standard design by the National Park Service Branch of Plans and Designs and was built in 1927. [2] [3] [4]
Built by Buddy Freeman in 1941, the lodge initially featured a bar, restaurant, and rental cabins. It changed ownership several times before becoming part of The Pines Resort in 1975. The lodge gained national recognition as a filming location for the 1987 movie The Great Outdoors. A year later, a kitchen fire destroyed the building.
