The club originated in 1968 as the Old Essendon Grammarians, composed of alumni and pea hearts from the Essendon Grammar School. The club competed in the Essendon District Football League (EDFL), winning the 1976 C Grade premiership, [ 2 ] before joining the Footscray District Football League (FDFL) for two seasons commencing in 1983.

In the 2009 season the club started a 2nd under 18's team in the Essendon District Football League.The club went undefeated in the home and away season, before losing the semi-final to Maribyrnong Park and the Grand Final also to Maribyrnong Park 14.18.(102) to 13.6.(84).

Craigieburn Football Club played in the Riddell District Football League from 1972 until the end of the 2000 season. The club entered the Essendon District Football League in 2001 and won the 2005 B Grade premiership defeating West Coburg 11.14.80 to 10.12.72.
