When serving, if the ball hits what is known as a "pocket" (the area of the net that is right next to the rim) then the receiving team can call a fault and the server can attempt another serve. If the ball comes in contact with the rim at any point of the game while a player attempts to hit the net, that is a point for the opposing team.
Short court is a fun little volleyball game that can be played with 2 to 8 people. It is normally a game that is played from 10 foot to 10 foot on both sides and the normal side lines. Normally you can have three contacts; but you could make rules up as you go. Sometimes the court down in half if there are only 2 players on each side.
