Heading north, US 191 is a divided highway for about 5 miles (8.0 kilometres) until it arrives in Clifton, the start of the road's designation as the Coronado Trail Scenic Road (both an Arizona Scenic Route and a National Scenic Byway). [1] [6] This scenic road approximates the route Francisco Vázquez de Coronado took between 1540 and 1542. [7]
US 191 begins in Cochise County, Arizona at a signaled intersection with Arizona State Route 80 (SR 80) and Historic U.S. Route 80 (Historic US 80) near Douglas. [1] The highway then proceeds north past Bisbee Douglas International Airport passing through the hamlets of Elfrida and McNeal.
The road meets SR 83 in Sonoita, where it turns east, and intersects SR 90 in Whetstone after entering Cochise County. SR 82 then passes through the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area before meeting its eastern terminus at SR 80 northwest of Tombstone. [3] Arizona State Route 82 west of Sonoita.
