This is a list of the schools in Division II of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the United States and Canada that have wrestling as a varsity sport. In the current 2024–25 season, there are a total of 70 Division II wrestling programs.
The National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA) is a nonprofit association of 162 institutions, conferences, organizations and individuals that organize the wrestling programs of many colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.
Schools from 34 of the 50 states and the District of Columbia are represented. All schools do not provide athletic scholarships to students. Conference affiliations listed in this table are primary affiliations as of the current 2024–25 school year.
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has 237 member colleges and universities for athletic competition in the 2024–25 season. [ 1 ] NAIA institutions
Wrestling is another varsity sport addition as announced by the school in partnership with the NCWA and The Texas Collegiate Wrestling Foundation with aspirations of being the first NCAA Division I program in Texas. [6] [7] Before joining the WAC in July 2020, Tarleton had been a member of the NCAA Division II Lone Star Conference (LSC).
Some schools have opted to compete in a sport at a higher level and are allowed to do so by the NCAA under certain circumstances. First, when the NCAA placed severe restrictions on the fielding of Division I teams by Division II institutions in 2011, it grandfathered in all then-current D-I teams at D-II schools.
