The Suffolk County Legislature voted to purchase Coindre Hall for $750,000 in July 1972 and spent $4,000 to map the area. The plan was to use it as a harborfront park and lease the manor to the Town of Huntington to be used as a cultural center. [8] At the end of 1976, Suffolk County decided to close Coindre Hall due to budget cutbacks.
