Symphylans, also known as garden centipedes or pseudocentipedes, are soil-dwelling arthropods of the class Symphyla in the subphylum Myriapoda. Symphylans resemble centipedes, but are very small, non-venomous, and may or may not form a clade with centipedes. [1] [2] More than 200 species are known worldwide. [3]
Mixophilus is a monotypic genus of soil centipede in the family Geophilidae.The only species in this genus is Mixophilus indicus. [1] This centipede is notable for its unusual habitat: This species is found in estuarine sediments and is the only species in the order Geophilomorpha recorded with a littoral habitat in India.

Two European species in this family include centipedes with only 29 pairs of legs: Geophilus persephones (29 in the only specimen, a male), and G. richardi (29 or 31 in males and 33 in females).
