Based in Los Angeles, Porter's first recorded song (as Nolan) was a version of Van Morrison's "Crazy Love" released on the Lizard label in 1971. Two other 45s were released on Lizard, including "Keep On Keeping On" before he switched to the larger imprint ABC for two final 45 releases.

Keep On Keepin' On is the first of two studio albums by the New Riders to feature only one original member of the band, John Dawson, the second being 1992's Midnight Moonlight. It includes a version of the Grateful Dead song "Friend of the Devil", which was co-written by Dawson.

She was born in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, and was raised in the Jewish faith. [2] She sang, with her eight brothers and sisters, in the Temple Beth-El choir. [1] After completing high school, she moved to Virginia Beach where she worked as a waitress and began singing rhythm and blues with local bands, before spending two years with Samuel Latham and the Rhythm Makers. "Keep On" is a post-disco song written by Hubert Eaves III, James Williams of D. Train. It was remixed by François Kevorkian and Eaves. The song reached #2 on Billboard 's Hot Dance Club Play chart and number #15 on R&B chart in 1982.
Allmusic editor Sharon Mawer found that "there was a mixture of styles on Keep On, from the salsa, holiday-inspired "Happiness" to the Justin Timberlake pastiche of "Ain't Such a Bad Place to Be," on which even the Indian-style intro worked well, to the ballads "Save Yourself," "Who Am I," and the final song, "Home," a haunting atmospheric track co-written by Nitin Sawhney.
