On March 30, 1987, the Showboat Hotel, Casino and Bowling Center opened with a 60,000-square-foot (5,600 m 2) casino and a 60-lane bowling alley. The resort's logo on swooped crown of the hotel tower lights up at night in yellow. Architects had a mixed opinion of Wynn Las Vegas' design.
The resort's interior underwent several redesigns, and plans to include a condo hotel component were ultimately scrapped. The Cosmopolitan opened on December 15, 2010, and at $3.9 billion, it was the most expensive Strip resort built up to that point. The resort proved to be popular, although casino revenue lagged behind other amenities.
By July 2016, Genting was finalizing designs for the hotel tower and the casino floor, ahead of plans to complete foundation work. [31] Construction cranes were expected to be placed at the site in early 2017, [32] but their unavailability delayed the start of construction. [30]
