The Grand National is a National Hunt horse race which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse near Liverpool, England. It is a handicap steeplechase over 30 fences and a distance of approximately 4 miles 3½ furlongs.

Forbra (foaled 1925) was a National Hunt racehorse best known for being the winner of the 1932 Grand National steeplechase when relatively unconsidered at 50/1. Prior to his victory in 1932, Forbra beat Golden Miller in a race where 'The Miller' was disqualified for carrying the wrong weight.
The race was first run in 1874 in Pardubice, a town long known in the horse racing world, as some trainers and jockeys from England came there to work. The current steeplechase course was established in 1856, however the course first took its present-day form in the years just after World War II.

Hurdle races occur at steeplechase meets mainly in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast and on the turf courses of several racetracks – Saratoga, Colonial Downs, Penn National, Monmouth Park and others.
