The Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) is an American neo-Confederate [1] nonprofit organization historical hereditary association for male descendants of Confederate Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines [2] that commemorates these ancestors, funds and dedicates monuments to them, and promotes the Lost Cause ideology.
In 1968, the Sons of Confederate Veterans passed a resolution to issue a "medal of honor" and began minting them in 1977. [2] According to past executive director Ben Sewell, "[t]he SCV created their own Confederate Medal of Honor simply because there were some incredible acts of valor that had received little or no recognition during and after the war". [3]
During this time, SCV won four High Percussion awards (1978, 1979, 1988, 1989) and three DCI World Championships. Hardimon served as a consultant for SCV from 1997 to 2000. He has scored music for many other corps (including Blue Knights from 1990 to 2001) as well as college percussion ensembles and marching bands.
