Great review. I hit the g25's at a demo day. The Ping rep fit me for + 1/4" over standard, blue dot with DG XP s300. Can anyone tell me about the shaft? I will likely pull the trigger at this weekends demo day. Great experience with the Ping rep. [/quote] It feels just like an S300, but provides more spin and a higher apex than the standard S300.
Blade size seems slightly larger then the i20. distance was a little less then the G25 due to the lofts more then likely. Both of my test irons were shafted with X100 which is the ideal shaft for me. play-ability was great in both sets and there wasn't a big drop off working a G25 9 iron compared to a i25 9 iron.
The sole width of the G series did seem to get a little bit larger after the G5 (peaking at around the G20). So depending on your swing type you may find the later G irons more forgiving than the G5. I know golfers who swear the G5 and G10 were the best iron sets ping ever released.
The G425 with the new tech are more forgiving, launch higher, and look a lot better than the G25, which were so so good. The screw in the toe is a game changer for me, because my miss is toe side. As JAM said though, that G25 iron finish is classic old school PING and it can't be beat. The G25s also feel a lot better.
The G400 has a thud @impact. Felt like a heavier, more substantial hit than the G25 (came off the face quickly but didn't feel harsh like the G or G30). I'd say a different feel for the G400 - I prefereed it over the i200 feel. Performance: G400 7iron flew higher, carried longer and had tighter dispersion than G25.
Posted July 24, 2014. The G30 long irons are both longer and stronger loft wise, but the difference decreases as the clubs get shorter. Personally, I'd get the cheaper clubs. If purchasing used you can go all the way back to G10 and the playability is identical to G25 in my opinion (I've played both extensively).
