Mandalay State Beach [1] [2] is a protected beach in the city of Oxnard, California, United States.Managed by the California Department of Parks and Recreation, [3] the park preserves an area of undeveloped sand dunes and wetlands that was once common along the 16.5-mile-long (26.6 km) coastline of the Oxnard Plain.
The State of California initially purchased a 26-acre (11 ha) site for the park in 1979, [8] with the additional intent to protect the sand dunes within the beach lands. [ 8 ] The developer of an adjacent residential with a hotel site dedicated an additional 36 acres (15 ha), giving the park its present size of 62 acres (25 ha). [ 9 ]
The resort includes an 11-acre pool area known as Mandalay Bay Beach, [223] which features 2,700 tons of sand imported from California. [224] One of the pools includes a wave machine producing six-foot waves. It was designed to host championship surfing. [126]
