Cupsogue Beach County Park is a 296-acre (1.20 km 2) park at the eastern end of Fire Island and the western end of Westhampton Island, [1] known locally as Dune Road, one of Long Island's easternmost barrier islands. The Atlantic Ocean, Moriches Inlet and Moriches Bay surround the park.
In 1870, a spur of the LIRR to Quogue brought a flood of visitors each summer and, by 1880, the hamlet was a bustling summer resort. Thirteen boarding houses and hotels ensconced along Quogue Street and the village flourished. The cottages on Dune road were large affairs, built to accommodate the seasonal influx of beach goers.
Hampton Bays is served by Hampton Bays Public Schools. [12] The district operates three schools. Hampton Bays Elementary School serves grades Pre-K-4, [13] and Hampton Bays Middle School, which fully opened in Fall 2008, serves grades 5-8. It is the first "green" school in New York state. [14] [15] Hampton Bays High School serves grades 9-12. [12]
