Step 1: Cut the Lumber. The first step in building the hammock stand is to break down the lumber into manageable sizes close to their final dimensions. If you have access to a miter saw, this process is much easier. However, a circular saw works just as well.
Step 1: Find a Template. First, I found a template tree shape I wanted to cut out for this project. You can do a quick Google search, sketch a drawing yourself, or find one from a coloring book. Any shape will do, but consider the detail when making your selection. The simpler the design, the easier it will be to cut.

After you have the placement just right, lift one letter as a time and put a generous coat of Mod Podge under the letter. Place the letter back on top of the glue and press it into the wood.
