The Dice-Sørensen coefficient (see below for other names) is a statistic used to gauge the similarity of two samples. It was independently developed by the botanists Lee Raymond Dice [ 1 ] and Thorvald Sørensen, [ 2 ] who published in 1945 and 1948 respectively.
The framework produces the DICE score, an indicator of the likely success of a project based on various measures. [2] DICE was originally developed by Perry Keenan, Kathleen Conlon, and Alan Jackson, all current or former partners at the Boston Consulting Group. [3] It was first published in the Harvard Business Review [4] in 2005.
The Sørensen–Dice coefficient also compares the number of items in both sets to the total number of items present but the weight for the number of shared items is larger. The Tversky index, named after Amos Tversky, [1] is an asymmetric similarity measure on sets that compares a variant to a prototype. The Tversky index can be seen as a generalization of the Sørensen–Dice coefficient and the Jaccard index.
