It was built by the Waterman Steamship Corporation in 1947, and rises 230 feet (70 m) and 16 stories.
The Wachovia Bank and Trust Company Building served as the bank's headquarters until a new headquarters was built in 1966. It was named to the National Register of Historic Places on May 31, 1984, as "Wachovia Bank and Trust Company Building".
