Shelby County is a county located in the far eastern portion of the U.S. state of Texas.As of the 2020 census, its population was 24,022. [1] Its county seat is Center. [2] The county was established in 1835 as a municipality of Mexico and organized as a county in 1837.
A Republic of Texas post office had been established by 1843. In 1866, in a contested fight for the county seat, county records were spirited away in the dead of night and Center became the new Shelby County seat of government. The population of Shelbyville in 1884 was 150, which doubled by 1914.

Lake Timpson is a reservoir in Shelby County in the state of Texas. The latitude and longitude coordinates for this reservoir are 31.8443, -94.4291 and the altitude is 318 feet (97 m). [10] Lake Timpson Dam is on Blackwater Creek and is used for recreation purposes. Construction was completed in 1956.
