Montgomery County is a county located in Southeast Kansas.Its county seat is Independence, [3] and its most populous city is Coffeyville.As of the 2020 census, the county population was 31,486. [1]
Independence Community College was established in 1925 as grades 13 and 14 of the Independence public school system. In 1967, Independence Community College legally separated from the school district. Construction of the new community college on a 68-acre (28 ha) campus, formerly the Independence Country Club, began in 1969.
The following year, Humphrey moved to Independence, Kansas, where he practiced law and started the South Kansas Tribune newspaper. He gave up the newspaper a year later and settled into the practice of law full-time, until December 1872 when he helped found the Commercial Bank of Independence.
The Booth Theater is a historic movie theater located at 119 W. Myrtle St. in Independence, Kansas. The building was constructed in 1911 and renovated for use as a movie theater in 1926–27. The redesigned theater was the first in Independence to be designed specifically for use as a movie theater.
