Tredegar House (Welsh: Tŷ Tredegar) is a 17th-century Charles II-era mansion in Coedkernew, on the southwestern edge of Newport, Wales. For over five hundred years it was home to the Morgan family, later Lords Tredegar, one of the most powerful and influential families in the area.
The first castle at "Castell Newyd ar Uysc" (New Castle on the River Usk) [7] was a Norman motte possibly built by William Rufus around 1075.[6] [12] Its exact location is uncertain, [7] but a common theory is that it was built at Stow Hill close to St Woolos Church, about 0.5 miles (0.80 km) southwest of the later castle.
The Westgate Hotel, Commercial Street, Newport, Wales is a hotel building dating from the 19th century. On 4 November 1839 the hotel saw the major scenes of the Newport Rising, when 3,000 Chartists, some of them armed, led by John Frost marched on Newport to attempt to secure the release of five of their number who were being held under arrest at the hotel.
