North Aurora is a village in Kane County, Illinois, United States, and a suburb of Aurora. Per the 2020 census , the population was 18,261. [ 7 ] North Aurora maintains its own public library district, fire district, and police department, but public spaces and parks are managed by the neighboring Fox Valley Park District .
The library district service area encompasses nearly all of Sugar Grove Township and the portion of Blackberry Township south of Seavey Road. Excluded from this geography are the areas in the city of Aurora and the village of North Aurora. In 2008, the district population was 15,476, of which 40% had a library card. [citation needed]
The region extends from the village of Antioch, in far northern Illinois, to the city of Ottawa in the south. [1] It includes rural areas, suburban development, and 19th-century downtowns. Around 1 million people live in this area. Native American tribes that historically lived in this region include the Potawatomi, Sac, and Fox tribes.

Aurora was established with the building of a post office in 1837. Aurora began as two villages: East Aurora, incorporated in 1845 [9] on the east side of the river, and West Aurora, formally organized on the west side of the river in 1854. [9] In 1857, the two towns joined, incorporating as the city of Aurora. [10]
