Lúcia was the youngest child of António dos Santos and Maria Rosa Ferreira (1869–1942), [2] both from Aljustrel, who married on 19 November 1890. [1] Although peasants, the Santos family was not poor, owning land "in the direction of Montelo, Ortiga, Fátima, Valinhos, Cabeço, Charneca, and Cova da Iria."
This book is the second of two volumes: the fifth memoir is about her father, while the sixth memoir is about her mother. The book also contains several pictures of her family home, including interior rooms, and pictures of brothers, sisters and parents, and drawings showing the layout of Lúcia's home, and the general layout of the property.
Lúcia continued to report private visions periodically throughout her life. In the mid-1930s the Bishop of Leiria encouraged Lúcia (religious name: Sister María Lúcia das Dores) to write her memoirs, so as to disclose further details of her cousins and the 1917 apparitions. [citation needed]
