The Model 3000 was available in 12 and 20 gauge, chambering 2 + 3 ⁄ 4 or 3 in (7.0 or 7.6 cm) shotshells. [1] A "slug gun" variant chambered for 2 + 3 ⁄ 4-inch shells with a magazine extension and a shorter barrel was offered in 12 gauge only, with optional open sights.
The model 1006 was the first in the S&W 1000 series of third generation semi-automatic handguns. Variations include the models 1026, 1046, 1066, 1076 (FBI model) and 1086. Used in the Smith & Wesson Model 3, it was introduced around 1869. [1] Between 1871 and 1873, the .44 Model 3 was used as the standard United States Army sidearm. [1] It was also offered in the Merwin Hulbert & Co. Army revolvers.
