In 2021/22, the basketball team finished second in the regular season. UTA advanced to the Sun Belt Tournament final where the Mavericks earned a 76–62 win over number one seed Troy. This marked the third overall appearance in the NCAA tournament. UTA has played in three NCAA and four NIT tournaments (as of the end of the 2022/23 season).
