+1, I like that this is the first answer to address the multiple Unicode code points involved. However, I think you might mention that regardless of the characters' names or official prescriptions for use, the less-than and greater-than signs are commonly used as a type of brackets, probably because they can easily be typed and their display is more widely supported than that of the other symbols.

How can I use the ">" and "<" symbols on a Windows 10, with an ANSI physical keyboard, but with a "Spanish" (or any other ISO key layout for that matter like French (AZERTY), Portuguese, etc.). On Linux machines, it just works by using AltGr + Shift + Z and AltGr + Shift + X. On Windows, I can't make it work.

    1. Try to use Shift + AltGr + <> for "<", or Shift + AltGr +> for ">". If this doesn't work, you may fallback to these keyboard shortcuts: Alt + 6 + 0 for Less Than (<) Alt + 6 + 2 for Greater Than (>) You may also use a keyboard macro product like AutoHotKey to assign any keyboard combination you like to these two characters. 6. At least on my physical keyboard and using the Spanish (Mexico) keyboard layout in Windows 10, I had to change a couple things to get this idea to work: a) removed specification of right Alt, because in Spanish layout, right Alt is not right Alt, it is Alt Gr (e.g. left Alt is the key that works); b) used "Send, <" (and "Send, >") on a separate line after the "::", and "return" on the next ...

  7. This answer assumes that it is like that for all keys: i.e., you try to get an A, you get an a, and so on; the Shift key is really (temporarily) not working. Sometimes Windows (but I had this happen to me on Linux Desktop, OpenSuSE 13.2 too) seems to "lose track" of the status of some control key. For me it is usually the Ctrl key or the Alt ...

On the keyboard test, when I pressed the actual </> button on the keyboard itself, it made the right CTRL button blue, indicating that the right CTRL key was pressed - this is wrong. Here you can also see that when I pressed the button next to "Enter" ( ' ) it indicated that the "</>" key was pressed as well.

GID: 65. Most of the times it works by pressing Shift+6 or Ctrl+Shift+6. And of course it depends on the keyboard model and the layout that you're using. But IF you couldn't type it you can use it by adding symbols.
