Ben Ray Luján (/ l uː ˈ h ɑː n / loo-HAHN; [2] born June 7, 1972) is an American politician who has served as the junior United States senator from New Mexico since 2021. He served as the U.S. representative for New Mexico's 3rd congressional district from 2009 to 2021 and as Assistant Speaker [ a ] from 2019 to 2021.
New Mexico was admitted to the Union on January 6, 1912 and elects members of the United States Senate who belong to class 1 and class 2.The state's current U.S. senators are Democrats Martin Heinrich (since 2013) and Ben Ray Luján (since 2021).
