In the accounts of Anne Boleyn, bills for caps supplied to her "female jester" are recorded in 1535–36. [2] The name of this female jester is not mentioned, but may have been Jane. [3] In 1537, she is noted to be in service of Princess Mary. [4] As well as Jane, Mary also employed Lucretia the Tumbler. [5]
In 1534, William Stafford secretly wed, as her second husband, Mary Boleyn (c. 1499 – 1543), sister of King Henry VIII's second wife, Anne Boleyn. Mary Boleyn is said to have been pregnant at the time of her marriage to Sir William Stafford [9] and they may have had two children: [10] [11] Edward Stafford (1535–1545).
