On 18 June 2012, a more specific format was proposed by a joint meeting of the councils of IITs, NITs, and IIITs. As per this proposal, the exam would be called the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and would be made up of two parts, JEE-Main [9] and JEE-Advanced. Two distinct "patterns of admission" would be used.
The admission criteria on the undergraduate program is strictly merit based on the Boards Marks and NCHMCT JEE entrance exam conducted by the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT). The aspirant should minimum have passed 12th/senior secondary exam or is equivalent from any recognized board.
The JEE pattern has undergone many changes. Since 2012 candidates are given paper copies of their answers, and cutoffs are announced.
