Loop 1604 is the outer highway loop encircling San Antonio, Texas, spanning approximately 95.6 miles (153.9 km).Originally constructed as a two-lane highway, the northern segment of the route, from US 90 in western San Antonio to Kitty Hawk Road in northeastern Bexar County, has been upgraded to a four-lane freeway.
Loop 1853 is a proposed loop around the south side of Madisonville as a relief route for SH 21, which is routed through the city. It is proposed to run from US 190 /SH 21, 0.7 miles (1.1 km) east of FM 1452 , to another point on SH 21, 0.4 miles (0.6 km) west of FM 2346 .

The highway turns to the east, before ending at Loop 1604, near UTSA. The current FM 1560 was designated on September 21, 1955, and the highway originally ran from FM 471 northward and eastward to a county road in Bexar County; the eastern terminus would be designated as part of FM 1604 on 1959 and renumbered Loop 1604 in 1977.

On May 9, 2016, construction began to widen FM 1957 from two to four lanes between SH 211 and Loop 1604. [9] The project was financed with a pass-through partnership between Bexar County and TxDOT, with the county providing initial funding and the state reimbursing the costs later.
