Hartenbos is a town in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It is located some 45 kilometres outside George, South Africa. It belongs, together with 20 other settlements, to the Mossel Bay Local Municipality. Originally a farm, the South African Railways and Harbours turned it into a holiday resort for their lower-rung employees in 1933.

The area that was to become Mossel Bay Municipality included the Mossel Bay TRC and a small part of the Outeniqua TRC. At the local elections of December 2000 the TLCs and TRCs were dissolved and the Mossel Bay Municipality was established as a single local authority.
The bay frequently plays host to the Bryde's whale and from June to late October the southern right whale and humpback whale can be spotted quite often. It is a pleasure to watch the mother Humpback whale teach her youngsters to jump out of the water ( whale breaching ) and do some lobtailing , this is the act of beating the water with their tails.

Ruiterbos (Dutch: Ruiterbosch) is a village in the Mossel Bay Local Municipality in the Western Cape province of South Africa. As of 2011, the village had a population of 937 living in 310 households. [1] The village is situaded at the foot of the Robinson Pass between Mossel Bay and Oudtshoorn. [2]
