The Hodgkin–Huxley model, or conductance-based model, is a mathematical model that describes how action potentials in neurons are initiated and propagated. It is a set of nonlinear differential equations that approximates the electrical engineering characteristics of excitable cells such as neurons and muscle cells .
Biological neuron model. Fig. 1. Neuron and myelinated axon, with signal flow from inputs at dendrites to outputs at axon terminals. The signal is a short electrical pulse called action potential or 'spike'. Fig 2. Time course of neuronal action potential ("spike").
The FitzHugh–Nagumo model (FHN) describes a prototype of an excitable system (e.g., a neuron). It is an example of a relaxation oscillator because, if the external stimulus exceeds a certain threshold value, the system will exhibit a characteristic excursion in phase space, before the variables and relax back to their rest values.
The simplest models of the action potential are the "flush and fill" models (also called "integrate-and-fire" models), in which the input signal is summed (the "fill" phase) until it reaches a threshold, firing a pulse and resetting the summation to zero (the "flush" phase). [3][21][22] All of these models are capable of exhibiting entrainment ...
3D Vizualization of the Galves–Löcherbach model simulating the spiking of 4000 neurons (4 layers with one population of inhibitory neurons and one population of excitatory neurons each) in 180 time intervals. The Galves–Löcherbach model (or GL model) is a mathematical model for a network of neurons with intrinsic stochasticity. [1][2]
The heart is a muscular organ found in most animals. ... Their function is similar in many respects to neurons. [7] ... Animated heart 3D model rendered in computer.
