The London Borough of Haringey (/ ˈ h ær ɪ ŋ ɡ eɪ / ⓘ HARR-ing-gay, same as Harringay) [1] is a London borough in north London, classified by some definitions as part of Inner London, and by others as part of Outer London. It was created in 1965 by the amalgamation of three former boroughs. It shares borders with six other London boroughs.
The London Borough of Haringey and its council were created under the London Government Act 1963, with the first election held in 1964.For its first year the council acted as a shadow authority alongside the area's three outgoing authorities, being the borough councils of Hornsey, Tottenham and Wood Green.

From 1965 Harringay formed part of the new London borough of Haringey, incorporating the former municipal boroughs of Hornsey and Tottenham and controlled by the Labour Party since 1971.
