The Old Bushells Factory is a heritage-listed former Bushells Tea factory and warehouse, now used as shops, offices and an art gallery, located at 86 – 88 George Street in the inner city Sydney suburb of The Rocks in the City of Sydney local government area of New South Wales, Australia.
A Bushells tea factory was set up in Harrington Street, Sydney, and a coffee roasting department at Atherton Place in The Rocks. [2] In 1940, members of the Bushell family acquired the heritage-listed Sydney house, Carthona. [3] In the 1980s, the company diversified its coffee manufacturing under the Bushells Coffee brand. The Harrington Street site appears to have been acquired by Bushells Tea Company c. 1920 [2] with the building subsequently completed and occupied by 1924–25. The company acquired the site from the Sunday Times Newspaper Company, which had purchased it the previous year from the Housing Board of NSW.
