Somerton and Frome was a constituency [n 1] in Somerset represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament. [ n 2 ] It was formerly represented by David Warburton , who was elected as a Conservative , but latterly sat as an Independent after losing the Conservative whip in April 2022 following allegations of misconduct.
A by-election for the United Kingdom parliamentary constituency of Somerton and Frome took place on 20 July 2023, following the resignation of the incumbent MP David Warburton on 17 June. It was the first by-election in Somerset since the 1970 Bridgwater by-election. [1] The seat was won by the Liberal Democrat candidate Sarah Dyke. [2]
The boundary changes created the cross-county boundary constituencies of Frome and East Somerset, Wells and Mendip Hills, and Tiverton and Minehead. Bridgwater was re-established as a constituency, replacing Bridgwater and West Somerset , while the new constituency of Glastonbury and Somerton largely replaced Somerton and Frome .

Frome was a constituency centred on the town of Frome in Somerset. It returned one Member of Parliament (MP) to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom from 1832, until it was abolished for the 1950 general election .
The Frome Society for Local Study [147] was founded in 1958 to make the history of Frome and the district better known, and to preserve its historic buildings and records; there is an annual programme of winter lectures and summer visits to places of interest as well as a wide range of research, donations, and publications.
It consisted of the Westminster Parliament constituencies (on their 1983 boundaries) of Bridgwater, North Devon, Somerton and Frome, Taunton, Wells, Weston-super-Mare, and Yeovil. [1] The constituency replaced most of Somerset and West Dorset and parts of Devon. It became part of the much larger South West England constituency in 1999.
