Old Fort Bliss are a pair of two-story adobe buildings in El Paso, Texas. They were built in the 1850s, and designed in the Victorian architectural style. [2] They were army barracks and later remodelled into apartment buildings. [2] The structure has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since February 23, 1972. [1]
The house was named after General John J. Pershing, who occupied it from January 1914 [3] to 1916 [1] as the post commander of Fort Bliss during the Mexican Revolution. [ 4 ] In October 1911, the first 48-star flag of the United States was raised in front of the Pershing House to celebrate the pending statehood of New Mexico and Arizona .
