Whatcom Community College (WCC or Whatcom) is a public community college in Bellingham, Washington, in Whatcom County. Established in 1967, Whatcom has been accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities since 1976.
The Washington State Community College system was first established by the Community College Act of 1967. [1] The Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, along with administering the Community and Technical College Act, [2] provides the member colleges with leadership and information technology services.
Due to increased enrollment and lack of space for classes, a permit for a dedicated building was obtained in February 1905. The cost of the building was estimated to be about $7,000. [8] The exterior of the building was completed in June 1906. [9] The first floor held seven classrooms and the cooking department.
In 1972, BTCU opened to faculty and staff of Whatcom County Community College (now Whatcom Community College). Bellingham Teachers Credit Union was renamed Whatcom Educational Credit Union in 1975.
