The author was Sayyid Uthmān ibn ʻAbdallāh ibn ʻAqīl ibn Yaḥyā Al-ʻAlawī, سيد عثمان بن عبد الله بن عقيل بن يحيى العلوي d.1914 who self published his works on his own lithographic press in Batavia.
Almaany is one of the most recently developed Arabic dictionaries and is continually updated. Its Arabic service amalgamates entries from dictionaries including Lisan al-Arab compiled by Ibn Manzur in 1290, al-Qāmūs al-Muḥīṭ by Firuzabadi in the 15th century, and ar-Rāʾid published by Jibran Masud in 1964. [9]
It was one of the two dictionaries the academy planned to publish from its founding in 1932, the other being Al-Mu'jam al-Wasīt , intended to serve students. [1] The German orientalist August Fischer, a member of the academy, provided his materials for the academy to develop into Al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr.
Some of them are, according to Al-Suyuti, ḍa‘īf, ḥasan or even ṣaḥīḥ. [ 1 ] Ahmad ibn Ali Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani (d.1449) contends, however, that the majority of the narrations in this book are, in fact, fabricated and that those narrations criticized as not actually being fabricated are very few in comparison.
Therefore, al-Wahidi must have started working on al-Wasit before finishing al-Basit, gathering material that was excluded from al-Basit because it was considered non-philological. [2] Al-Wasit is thus a compilation of reconciliation. The title itself can be read as a pun, both as the "middle" and the "go-between."
Al-Mu'jam as-Saghir (Arabic: المعجم الصغير), is one of the Hadith book written by great Hadith Narrator and compiler Imam Al-Tabarani (874–971 CE, 260–360 AH). It is part of his Hadith book series by name of Mu'ajim Al-Tabarani. The other two books of the series are Al-Mu'jam al-Awsat & Al-Mu'jam al-Kabeer. [1] [2]
