The Treasure Coast area that became Stuart was first settled by non-Native Americans in 1870. In 1875, a United States Lifesaving Station was established on Hutchinson Island , near Stuart. Today, the station is known as Gilbert's Bar House of Refuge and is on the National Register of Historic Places .
WTTB is one of the oldest radio stations along the Treasure Coast. It signed on the air on June 7, 1954; 70 years ago (). [4] Although it is widely believed the station's slogan, Where the tropics begin, originated with WTTB, Dr. John Leroy Hutchison has been credited for coining the phrase back in the 1920s–nearly three decades before WTTB went on the air.
