Dirt track racing is the single most common form of auto racing in the United States. According to the National Speedway Directory, there are over 700 dirt oval tracks in operation in the US. [1] The composition of the dirt on tracks has an effect on the amount of grip available. Many tracks use clay with a specific mixture of dirt.
Potomac Speedway is a 3/8 mile clay oval raceway located in Budds Creek, Maryland, near Charlotte Hall. The raceway was first raced on in 1973. Races are typically held on Friday or Saturday nights. Regular events include Super Late Models, Limited Late Models, Street Stocks, and Hobby Stocks and 4 cylinders.
The speedway is located at 239 Wisner Avenue in Middletown on land which was known as The Ogden Tract in the mid-1850s. It was originally a half-mile horse racing track known as the Harry Clay Oval, named after a race horse that was famous at that time. Over the years, the track was widened and lengthened to a true 5/8-mile race track.

In 1987 Dennis White completed a three-year effort to construct the Frogtown International Speedway in the Mohawk Nation at Akwesasne territory by holding its first racing event. [2] Chiefs from both the recognized councils of the Canadian and American portions of the reservation conducted the opening ceremonies for over 2,500 fans. [ 3 ]
The speedway was covered by approximately 6,900 cubic feet of clay for DIRTcar modified drivers to compete in the NAPA 300, the richest dirt modified race in the world. The event took place on October 5 to 9, 2016. [4] It was the first time that the track had a dirt surface since 1952. [4]
