Dubois County is a county located in the U.S. state of Indiana. As of 2020, the population was 43,637. [1] The county seat is Jasper. [2] Dubois County is now the sole county of the Jasper Micropolitan Statistical Area.
Indiana State Road 545 passes through Dubois, leading north to State Road 56 and southeast towards Patoka Lake. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the Dubois CDP has a total area of 1.60 square miles (4.14 km 2), of which 1.57 square miles (4.07 km 2) is land and 0.02 square miles (0.06 km 2), or 1.55%, is water.
The town was settled by mostly German-speaking people from central Europe. At one time Ferdinand was known as the wooden shoe village. At the end of the 19th century, Ferdinand contained many businesses, including a machine works, a brick works, brewery, several taverns, and a dairy. The Ferdinand post office has been in operation since 1850. [5]
